- Reaffirms the United States’ commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s progress and strengthening Parliament democracy.
A high-level US delegation, led by Mr. Donald Lu, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, met with the Speaker Hon. (Dr) Asoka Ranwala recently (06) at the Parliament premises.
The delegation included key officials such as Ms. Anjali Kaur, Deputy Assistant Administrator of the Bureau for Asia at USAID, and Mr. Robert Kaproth, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asia at the US Department of the Treasury, among others.
The meeting was focused on the Sri Lanka’s reform priorities and the critical role of Parliament in advancing the Sri Lankan peoples’ mandate of accountability, transparency, and inclusive governance.
The Speaker expressed his gratitude for the ongoing support of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Sri Lanka, highlighting its contributions to strengthening the relationship between the people and Parliament through various programs. He also emphasized his hope for continued U.S. support to strengthen parliamentary democracy in the future.

Secretary General of Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, USA ambassador to Sri Lanka Ms. Julie Chung, Private Secretary to the Speaker Mr. Ranapriya Abayasinghe were also present on this occasion.
