IndiGo Airlines Introduces Daily Direct Flights Between Tiruchirappalli and Jaffna.

March 30, 2025 – IndiGo Airlines has officially launched daily direct flights connecting Tiruchirappalli, India, and Jaffna, Sri Lanka, marking a significant milestone in regional air connectivity. This new route is poised to enhance travel and trade opportunities in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province while strengthening cultural and economic ties between South India and Sri Lanka.

Presently, IndiGo is operating 57 weekly flights to Sri Lanka from five cities in India: Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Tiruchirappalli. The new route between Tiruchirappalli and Jaffna is introduced to cater to the growing demand and to provide more options from South India to the Northern Sri Lankan province. IndiGo Airlines will operate the route using a 78-seater ATR72 aircraft, offering passengers convenient and affordable travel options.

The inaugural flight was celebrated with a cake-cutting ceremony, graced by Indian Deputy Consul General Sai Murali, reflecting the significance of this occasion. The first flight carried 27 passengers to Jaffna and returned with 36 passengers.

Air Chief Marshal (Rtd) Harsha Abeywickrema, Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL), expressed his appreciation for IndiGo Airlines’ efforts in reviving direct air connectivity between Tiruchirappalli and Jaffna after a hiatus of 47 years. He recognized the importance of this route in fostering regional collaboration and driving economic growth.

This development complements IndiGo’s existing connectivity between Chennai and Jaffna, further enhancing travel options for passengers and promoting tourism, business, and cultural exchanges between the two nations.
