The Ambassador of Cuba to Sri Lanka H.E Andrés Marcelo González Garrido met with the Hon. Speaker of Parliament of Sri Lanka Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne recently. The Secretary General of Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera was also present on the occasion.

The Ambassador Gonzales extended warm greetings to the Hon. Speaker and expressed Cuba’s readiness to enhance cooperation with Sri Lanka. He reaffirmed the Cuban government’s ongoing support to combat dengue, offering collaboration and expertise to strengthen public health initiatives aimed at eradicating the disease.

The ambassador handed over the letter of congratulations from the President of the National Assembly of People’s Power of the Republic of Cuba to the Hon. Speaker on his recent appointment.

The Hon. Speaker recalled the long-standing friendship between Sri Lanka and Cuba, which began in 1959, and expressed commitment to further strengthening the enduring diplomatic relations between the two nations. He also extended his gratitude to the Cuban government for the support in combating Dengue in Sri Lanka. The Speaker highlighted the new government’s “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative and emphasized that all Sri Lankans, regardless of ethnicity or religion, are working towards a corruption-free, developed country. He also conveyed the intention of reviving the Sri Lanka – Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Association for the Tenth Parliament, aiming to further strengthen bilateral relations.
