Hon. Member of Parliament Aravinda Senarath, representing the National People’s Power, was elected today (24) as the new Chair of the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA). He was elected during the inaugural meeting of the Committee held for the first session of the Tenth Parliament.
Hon. Member of Parliament Aravinda Senarath’s name was proposed as the Chair by Hon. Member of Parliament Chandana Sooriyaarachchi and was seconded by Hon. Member of Parliament Susantha Kumara Nawarathna, both representing the National People’s Power.
Addressing the Committee, Chair emphasized the importance of collective commitment from all members to overcome the country’s significant financial crisis and steer it in the right direction. He further stated that the future proceedings of the Committee would be conducted with utmost impartiality and independence. He assured that the Committee would not hesitate to make bold and accurate decisions to meet the expectations of the public.
