A leadership program organized for the prefects of the primary section of Ananda College, Colombo was held recently (30) under the patronage of the Deputy Speaker Hon. Ajith Rajapakse. The old Anandians’ Group of 2004 had organized this programme in collaboration with the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
Secretary General of Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Mr. Chaminda Kularatne, Assistant Secretary General of Parliament Mr. Hansa Abeyratne who is an alumnus of Ananda College, Principal of Ananda College Mr. Lal Dissanayake were also present on this occasion.
About 80 prefects of grade 5 of Ananda College joined this program organized under the theme of “Leaders of Tomorrow”. During the programme awareness was given to the students through several fields.
Addressing the students, the Deputy Speaker Hon. Ajith Rajapakse explained his life experiences and explained to the students how he came to the position of Deputy Speaker and how he overcame the challenges associated with it. Speaking further, the Deputy Speaker said that through the Ninth Parliament, he was able to fulfill a unique role by passing many Bills that were important for social well-being.
Secretary General of Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, who addressed the students, gave a brief presentation on the history of the Parliament and the legislative process of the Parliament. Delivering the speech the Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Mr. Chaminda Kularatne recalled the students about the great leaders that have been produced by Ananda College and informed the children about leadership qualities. Mr. Lal Dissanayake, Principal of Ananda College, delivered a special lecture on the leadership qualities of the students of Ananda College.
Certificates were presented to the students who participated in this leadership program, under the patronage of the Deputy Speaker.
